Paid a full month, leaving after two weeks — do I get anything back?

Sometimes, and it depends on the operator rather than on any rule. Ask, because a fair number will pro-rate it.

What typically happens:

1. Some operators pro-rate and refund the unused days, especially if they can re-let the room quickly. Goshiwon turnover is high and a mid-month vacancy is not hard to fill in a student district.
2. Some refund nothing on the basis that the month was paid for the month. This is also common and it is not unreasonable given there was no deposit and no contract.
3. Many will meet you halfway — refund part, or let you transfer the remaining days to someone you find.

What improves your chances, concretely:

- Give as much notice as you can. Two weeks' warning of a mid-month exit is a very different conversation from telling them as you leave.
- Ask in person or by phone, not by message. This is a discretionary decision by a person, and it goes better in a conversation.
- Explain the reason briefly. Operators are people and "my program ended early" or "a family emergency" lands differently from nothing.
- Offer to help fill the room. If a classmate needs a room, that solves their problem and yours.

What you are entitled to strictly: with no written contract, the terms are whatever was agreed, and what was agreed was a month. So this is a request, not a claim — approach it that way and you will do better.

The useful thing to know for next time: if you suspect your dates might move, ask at the start whether they pro-rate on exit. It is a normal question, the answer is free, and it tells you which kind of operator you are dealing with before it matters.

On the size of it: half a month is 200,000 to 300,000 won. Worth asking for, not worth a fight that costs you the reference.
