What part-time jobs actually hire language students?
assuming i get the work permit after 6 months. my korean will be low intermediate at best.

Low intermediate opens more doors than you would think. Here is what students actually do, roughly in order of how easy it is to get.
1. Language tutoring and conversation exchange. The best paid by far — 25,000 to 50,000 won an hour for private lessons, more if you are a native English speaker with a degree. Note: formal English teaching requires an E-2 visa and is not permitted on a D-4 work permit. Casual conversation practice arranged privately is a grey area many students occupy; be aware of the line.
2. Cafes and restaurants. 10,030 won an hour is the 2026 minimum wage and most places pay at or slightly above it. Foreigner-friendly areas — Itaewon, Hongdae, Gangnam, Yeonnam — hire non-native speakers regularly. Low intermediate is enough for a cafe; a busy Korean restaurant kitchen is harder.
3. Convenience stores. Night shifts especially. Predictable Korean, limited vocabulary to learn, and it pays the same. A lot of students start here.
4. Hotel and hostel front desk. English is the asset, not Korean. Better pay than cafes and quieter shifts.
5. Translation, subtitling, voice recording, brand modelling, event staffing. Irregular but well paid, and language schools and student groups pass these around constantly.
What is not allowed even with the permit: nightlife venues, delivery riding, anything cash-in-hand and undeclared.
Realistic expectation: 20 hours a week at 10,500 won is about 840,000 won a month. That covers rent in a goshiwon or most of a one-room, but not tuition. Nobody funds a semester on part-time work — treat it as living expenses, not a plan.

You can still post anonymously after signing in.tutoring pays 3x what a cafe does and takes a third of the hours. if you're a native english speaker just do that, the maths isn't close

one classmate's cousin, then word of mouth. never advertised once. it snowballs fast

how did you find students?

same, korean parents talk to each other and that's the whole marketing strategy

convenience store night shift for 8 months. genuinely improved my korean more than class did, you repeat the same 30 sentences until they're automatic

underrated point. repetitive job = free listening practice

korean here — please do not work without the permit. i've seen two foreign friends get caught and it was not a small problem for either of them

the employer gets fined too which is why decent places won't hire you without it anyway

hostel front desk in hongdae. they wanted english and a smile, my korean was terrible at the time. try those

20h a week + 90% attendance + homework is a lot more than it sounds on paper. don't plan for the maximum from day one
