Do Korean university dorms have curfews? Dorm vs goshiwon?

Curfews depend entirely on the university — there's no national rule.

Dorms: some have a curfew (typically midnight to 1am), some don't. Dorms are cheaper, safe, and put you next to classmates from day one, but rooms are usually shared and applications open on a fixed date each semester — miss it and you're out for that term.

Goshiwon: a small private room, no curfew, no deposit, usually 400,000-650,000 won a month in Seoul depending on district and whether it has a window. Cheapest private option, but rooms really are small.

One-room / officetel: real independence, 500,000-800,000 won a month in Seoul, but landlords normally want a deposit that can run into the millions of won. Increasingly there are no-deposit options through accommodation platforms.
