Where do deliveries go in a goshiwon?

It depends on the building, and it is worth asking on day one because you will be ordering a lot in your first month.

The common arrangements:

1. A shelf or rack near the entrance. Most common. Packages are left with the room number on them and you collect them. Generally safe — buildings have CCTV at the door and theft is rare in Korea — but not locked.
2. The operator's office or the front desk, if the building is staffed. Safest, and the operator will often message you.
3. Left outside your room door. Some couriers do this if they can get in.

What to do:

- Put your room number in the address, clearly, in the detail field. Korean addresses go building then unit, and a package with no room number in a 40-room building becomes everyone's problem.
- Ask the operator where deliveries go, on move-in day. One sentence, saves confusion.
- For anything valuable, use a convenience store pickup (편의점 픽업) or a parcel locker instead. Almost every Korean shopping site offers this at checkout, you pick a nearby CU or GS25, and you collect it with a code. This is what people use for phones, laptops and anything they would mind losing.
- Coupang and the big sites deliver overnight, so timing is rarely an issue.

On safety honestly: package theft in Korea is uncommon by international standards and most students never have a problem in a goshiwon. But an open shelf in a building with 40 residents and a propped-open front door is still an open shelf — use convenience store pickup for the expensive things and do not think about it for the cheap ones.

One extra: if you order food delivery, most couriers will not come past the entrance. Meet them at the door, and put your phone number in the notes.
