Is the 10-week pace at university language schools really that fast?

One level per 10 weeks sounds intense. How much self-study do I need on top of the 4 hours of class? I'm worried about falling behind in the first month.

It is fast, and honest expectations help a lot.

Class is usually 4 hours a day, 5 days a week, and you finish one level in 10 weeks. Most students need 1-2 hours of review daily on top of class to keep up — more in levels 1-2 while you're still getting used to reading speed.

What actually decides whether you keep up:
- Learn Hangul before you arrive. Students who land already reading Hangul comfortably have a much easier first month.
- Do the homework the same day. The curriculum doesn't wait.
- Speak outside class. Class gives you the grammar; conversation partners and part-time jobs give you the fluency.

Falling behind in one level is not a disaster — most schools let you repeat a level. Yonsei is the strict exception, so if you want a safety net, that's worth factoring in.

Levels 1-2 were fine, level 3 is where it got real. That's where people start dropping to evening classes.
