HISS Overview & Introduction Video

Hanyang International Summer School (HISS) is a 4-week summer program in Seoul where you can take credit-bearing English-taught courses, enjoy campus life, and explore Korean culture with students from all over the world.

Each summer, HISS brings together thousands of international students on Hanyang University’s Seoul campus. You can choose from a wide range of courses in business, engineering, social sciences, Korean studies, and more — and earn credits that may be transferred back to your home university.

Outside the classroom, HISS offers K-pop dance workshops, Taekwondo, cultural excursions, and visits to famous landmarks in and around Seoul. It’s a chance to experience Korean university life, make global friends, and turn your summer break into something unforgettable.

HISS Ambassador Scholarship

A merit-based scholarship for students who are talented in photography and filming. Scholarship amounts are decided by HISS and may reduce your tuition.

  • Eligible to students who are talented in photography and filming
  • Up to 3 students per session will be selected as Hanyang Ambassadors
  • Ambassadors must complete media missions given by the HISS team
  • Scholarship may be awarded as a tuition discount (for example, around ₩800,000 off)

HOUSING

Housing for HISS students

Hanyang University offers the main on-campus dormitory option. ALLO KOREA also books safe off-campus rooms for students who prefer more privacy or flexibility.

Twin room dormitory about 15 minutes’ walk from campus. Simple, safe, and convenient for HISS students.

  • Twin room with private bathroom (shower/toilet)

INSURANCE

Health Insurance Requirement

All HISS students must be covered by health or travel insurance for the entire program. Proof of insurance must be uploaded at least 2 weeks before the program begins.

1) Student’s Own Insurance

Students may use insurance purchased from their home country.

  • Must be written in English
  • Must cover the full program period
  • Student must be the beneficiary
  • Full policy document must be submitted
2) HISS Group Insurance (DB Insurance)

Optional group insurance that can be purchased in Korea through wire transfer.

  • Group rate: ₩25,000–₩30,000
  • Covers accidents, injuries, emergency treatment
  • Payment link provided after application

Q. Can beginners join HISS courses?
Yes. Many courses are open to all levels, and Korean language classes offer Level 1 options for complete beginners.
No. HISS is a short-term (4-week) program, so a D-4 visa is not available.
Most students join with visa-free entry, K-ETA, or an existing Korean visa.

The Hanyang dormitory is first-come, first-served, and off-campus rooms fill up quickly during summer.
Yes. All students must upload valid international travel/health insurance before the program begins.
